How it works
QR Code or URL Access
Every Location and Point of Use Library in sdsLite gets its own QR code and web link.
Scan a location code to see every chemical on site, or scan one posted at the point of risk, like a welding station, to see only the Safety Data Sheets for that job. Either link can live as a bookmark or desktop shortcut on a shared computer or kiosk. No account or password is needed, so a new hire or visiting contractor gets the same access as your longest-serving employee.
Administrators set what each library holds and keep it current.
Regulatory Compliance
OSHA HazCom
OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200) requires employers to keep Safety Data Sheets readily accessible to employees during every shift, and electronic access is allowed only when nothing stands in the way of immediate access. A login screen or forgotten password can be exactly that kind of barrier.
With sdsLite, workers scan a QR code or open a bookmarked link and reach the right sheet in seconds. Location libraries cover every hazardous chemical in the work area, while Point of Use Libraries put task-specific SDSs next to the hazard itself. New hires and temporary workers get the same access on their first day.
WHMIS
Under WHMIS, employers must make Safety Data Sheets readily available to workers who may be exposed to a hazardous product, and to the joint health and safety committee or representative.
Most Canadian jurisdictions accept electronic SDSs as long as workers are trained to reach them and the system stays reliably accessible. sdsLite keeps that access simple enough to cover in a few minutes of training: scan the QR code at the location or open the bookmarked link. Point of Use Libraries show the SDSs for the products at a specific station, which pairs naturally with workplace labels and WHMIS worker education.
COSHH
COSHH asks employers to assess the risks of each hazardous substance and give workers suitable information, including access to the relevant safety data sheets (Regulation 12). Because COSHH assessments are usually built around specific tasks, Point of Use Libraries fit the way UK sites already work. Post a QR code at the workstation, and anyone doing that job can open the SDSs for the substances involved without signing in. The location library remains available for a full site view, which helps during emergencies and audits.
Agency staff and contractors scan the same code as permanent employees, so no one is left relying on memory.
ISO 45001
ISO 45001 expects documented information to be available and suitable for use where and when it is needed (clause 7.5.3), and its communication requirements extend to contractors and visitors (clause 7.4). sdsLite supports both.
Location and Point of Use Libraries place current SDSs at the point of risk, and anyone on site can open them by QR code or bookmarked link with no account required. Administrators manage versions centrally, so the sheet a worker sees is the one your system approves. Access data, such as which SDSs are opened most, also gives you evidence for management review and continual improvement.
Implementation
How it works in your facility
You only require a printer to roll out No-Login Access. Each location in sdsLite comes with ready-made signage carrying its QR code, so you print it and post it in prominent spots around the facility, such as entrances and chemical storage areas. Your IT team can also push the location URL to employee desktops as a shortcut.
Point of Use Libraries follow the same approach on a smaller scale. Each one includes a shelf label with its own QR code to place right where the products are stored or used, and IT can pre-install its URL on the workstation computer at that spot.
