How it works
Built from your chemical data
Each sign is generated from the SDSs assigned to a location. It identifies the site by name and address, alongside your company's logo. Below the headline, a QR code opens the location's SDS library with no login required, together with contact details for your site's safety lead. Workers and first responders can reach first aid measures, spill response and PPE requirements for every product on site, and they know who to call.
Signs are high resolution and designed for standard 8.5 x 11 paper. They also scale cleanly to larger formats when a bigger sign suits the space, such as a warehouse entrance or loading dock.
Regulatory Compliance
OSHA HazCom
OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200) requires employers to inform employees about the location and availability of SDSs and the list of hazardous chemicals in their work area. A posted sign with a QR code answers the question of where the sheets are, right at the entrance to the area.
The Chemical Risk Profile adds context that supports your HazCom training. Workers who have learned the GHS pictograms can see which of those hazards they are likely to encounter in that space, and new hires or contractors get the same information on their first day.
WHMIS
WHMIS requires employers to make SDSs readily available to workers who may be exposed to hazardous products, and to educate workers on how to access that information. A sign at each work area gives that training a physical anchor: point to the sign and show workers how to scan it.
The pictograms on the risk profile are the same ones workers see on supplier and workplace labels, which reinforces WHMIS education every time someone passes the sign.
COSHH
The Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996 require areas used to store significant quantities of dangerous substances to be marked with a suitable warning sign, unless the labelling on individual containers is enough. COSHH also requires employers to give workers suitable information about the substances they work with, including access to the relevant SDSs (Regulation 12).
sdsLite signage covers both needs from one printout. The warning headline and pictogram counts flag the hazards in the area, while the QR code gives anyone on site direct access to the underlying safety data sheets.
ISO 45001
ISO 45001 asks organizations to communicate relevant OH&S information to workers, contractors and visitors (clause 7.4) and to keep documented information available where it is needed (clause 7.5.3).
Signage generated from the same SDS library you manage centrally keeps posted information consistent with your records. The generation date on each sign also gives you a simple check during inspections and internal audits, since an outdated sign is easy to spot and replace.
Implementation
How it works in your facility
Rolling out safety signage takes a standard office printer and a few minutes. Generate a sign for each location in sdsLite, print it, and post it at entrances and other prominent, highly visible spaces.
Signage reflects your inventory on the day they are generated, so you will need to reprint them whenever products are added or removed. The generation date at the bottom of each sign makes this easy to check during safety walkthroughs, since a sign dated before your last inventory change is due for replacement.
For a cabinet or workstation, Point of Use labels fulfill the need at smaller scale. It draws on a subset of the location’s library and shows only the chemicals used in that specific area, so the risk profile and QR code match the work happening right there.
